Chahar Menar undergoing repair
The historical religious complex Chahar Menar in Tabriz which dates back to Seljukid era is undergoing repair.
The head of the provincial Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department, Torab Mohammadi told IRNA Thursday that the site has earlier been registered on national heritage list.
The complex is located in the vicinity of Tabriz Grand Bazaar and the ancient district of Rasteh Koucheh.
Based on historical documents, the dome of the monument was set up in the middle of the fifth century AH, he said.
Mohammadi said that with the annexation other edifices to Chahar Menar in the next periods, it attained further importance.
It has so far been reconstructed for several times because of dvastating earthquakes in the city, he said.
Given the fact that the dossier of Tabriz Bazaar is being prepared to be submitted to United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for its registration on the global heritage list, repair works on Chahar Menar will help preserve the status of the edifice.
Mohammadi said that his department has undertaken repair works to revive the monument.
